"Sayyed and Shaikh were unemployed. On that night, both had gone to a country liquor shop and after buying their drinks, they started gambling. They were drunk when they started fighting over money,'' said senior inspector Sadanand Lohar of the Shahu Nagar police station. Both are residents of Dharavi. The sum in question was Rs 4.
According to the police, drunkards around Dharavi usually gamble on paltry amounts like 50 p, Re 1, Rs 2, which often lead to fisticuffs. In this case, Shaikh pushed Sayyed, who fell to the ground and died. By the time the police arrived, the accused had fled. Finally, the police found Shaikh sleeping beside a boat in Mahim the next day. On interrogation, he admitted to his crime,'' said Lohar. Shaikh has been sent to police custody till August 20.
